Name one essential item all mothers need during pregnancy. Yes, you know it. The answer is most definitely a shoe horn. Now… if only I would have thought about that during my last pregnancy, when I couldn’t even lift myself out of bed or put on a pair of socks without enduring excruciating pain! Jeez. A shoe horn could have at least cut out the pain of putting on a pair of shoes!
What Is a Shoe Horn?
If you haven’t figured it out yet, a shoe horn is a long, curved piece of strong plastic that helps people put on their shoes without bending over. It’s truly a simple and effective product. It’s generally used for people who experience chronic back, hip or knee pain, but it’s for anyone that has significantly limited mobility and would like assistance putting on a pair of shoes.
… Do I have to mention the exhausted pregnant woman with severe sciatic nerve pain again? (Can you tell Oliver traumatized me while he was in the womb?)
How to Use It
The typical handle is about 12″ long with a curved end that fits nicely into the heel of your shoe.
- Place your foot into the shoe.
- Place the shoe horn into the heel of the shoe.
- Slide your foot down and pull out the shoe horn.
Now, it’s even easier using Vive Health’s Shoe Horn because of the extra foot of length and easy grip handle. I had a shoe horn in my bedroom for my entire childhood… No clue how it got there or why it was there, but I ultimately used it as a backscratcher. Anyways, that shoe horn was only a foot long and it did NOT have a handle on it. So, out of those two shoe horn experiences, I’m just going to vote for my sponsor’s shoe horn as being superior. Rock on Vive Health. (BTW, it’s only $12.95 if you were curious.)
The major benefit is the fact that you do not have to sit down with the 2′ shoe horn. You can stand up and put your shoes on without bending over. Therefore, no sitting down only to figure out how you will get back up without experiencing more pain.
Oliver never wears socks or pants. I’m just thankful his face wasn’t covered in blue paint this time. Small victories. Oh, and I did not ask him to make this video for me. He just came up to me so he could show me he knows how to use the shoe horn. Apparently, he was watching me when I was testing it out several days ago!
