Can you believe Spring has been here a month already!? I’m amazed by how fast time flies regardless of the fact that I have three jobs and children running all over the place. On top of this, I have dreams and ambitions… or a ton of big spring projects that I want to accomplish. My goal is to get them done
in the next five years before summer begins June 21, 2017. That gives me literally 54 days to complete this list. Should be no big deal, right?
Spring Cleaning & Project Goals
(In no particular order…)
Repaint Master Bedroom & Bathroom
I already bought the paint… which means I finished the hardest part of this project and wasted 100+ hours picking out the perfect color combination. I settled with all light pastel colors; a super light blue for one bedroom wall and a super florally light purple for the bathroom. The rest will be painted a pretty shade of white… including all of the nasty oak trim. If you think that’s boring, you should sleep in a room with a bright red wall for 2 years! I’m switching to a more classy, floating-on-clouds room to promote peace and well-being. These new colors will do a much better job at attracting angels to protect over us while we sleep. 🙂
I started my seeds inside already. Unfortunately, I brought them outside and expected them to survive 37 degree nighttime weather. They weren’t happy and most of them died. However, I do have a couple tomato, pepper, cucumber and herb plants left and I replanted more.
But this year our soil will be amazing! Every year it gets better and better, but our large compost heap is finally ready to spread throughout the garden. Plus, in the fall I threw soiled sheep bedding throughout the garden area too. My plants will be living their lives to the fullest this summer!
Landscaping & Wood Chips
We measured the entire area where we want to lay wood chips. We only need like a million square feet of wood chips. I haven’t even looked at prices yet, but I’m certain we will get free delivery. We could use free wood chips from the city… That would be awesome, but I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad idea for landscaping purposes. Anyone know?
Our house is a corner lot and since my co-worker (the mailman, ha!) drives by my house everyday, it’d be nice to keep my yard up to normal standards… Last summer our tractor broke and we were too busy to get it fixed. Our grass grew wild all summer long and people started wondering if something was wrong with us. :/
Stain the Deck
Our deck is rotting and old. We would like to preserve it so it will last several more years… unless someone wants to send their builders and checkbook over to build us a new one. In that case, let’s do a 4 season porch with a little furnace and screened in windows for walls.
In all reality though, I already power washed half of our deck. We have to lightly sand it and stain it. I have no clue what color we are doing, but my husband says we have a large can of stain already in the garage. I guess I don’t care because it’s free. Our deck is pretty small, so this project shouldn’t take too long. It just has to stop raining!
Paint Front Door & Shutters
They need a pop of color… A bright color pop? Not sure what color yet, but it will look great. Maybe barn red to match the barn?
Shear the Sheep
It’s about time to shear the boys!! (Wow, was that inappropriate or just me?) Anyways, Rammstein & Buckwheat need a haircut before the intense summer heat arrives. We might try washing and selling their wool this time too.
Extend Sheep Fence (Again)
Every summer, we seem to add more fencing to our sheep pasture. I have no interest in this project, but my husband seems pretty motivated to do it. The sheep keep trampling all the grass and since we have more land to share with them, we will do it. It’s better than our current system of using four hog panels tied together (with zip ties) and moving it around our yard for them to get fresh grass.
We have another well on our property that is closer to our barn and garden area, but we are unsure if it’s dry or not. We need to figure out if it has potential and fix it. I probably will not be apart of this project, but it still needs to be done. It would make a world of difference for watering the animals! I’m crossing my fingers all goes well on this.
Fix Shed & Barn
I feel like this is moving us closer to a summer project, but you never know. It’d be nice to give our barn a nice fresh coat of red paint and the steelOur shed is falling apart and the roof is rotted out. It’s filled with used oil and tires, making it the perfect concoction for an unstoppable fire to take out the whole barn… Therefore, we have to clean the inside of that up.
We just recycled about 1400 pounds of miscellaneous metal that was lying around our property. We will use that money to pay the tire shop to take our tires away. (The previous home owners left a shit ton of tires all around our property… Not cool.) I have no clue what we will do with the used oil. My husband likes to burn it in the fire. Me? Not so much…
