I love making new year resolutions.
I don’t think I’ve ever missed setting a new goal or lifestyle change at the beginning of the year. It’s such an easy way to set a strong intention to make positive change in your life. Everyone has room to grow in one way or another, so why not take a moment for reflection?
Note that you can set new goals or resolutions at any time of the year. If you think it’s too late to join the New Year Resolution “share-fest”, no worries. I am sharing my resolutions with you 16 days into the new year. It’s all good.
New Year Resolutions for 2017
I’ve been playing piano a lot more than usual these past months.
I don’t want to keep falling backwards in proficiency levels, so I want to continue making time for piano this year. I have found that it is very therapeutic and extremely effective at melting away strong emotions that need settling down. Seriously, music calms my soul. Totally…
I want to memorize the following classical & broadway pieces. I have never been good at memorizing sheet music, so it’s time to work on this skill.
- Moonlight Sonata – Beethoven
- Fur Elise – Beethoven
- Hungarian Dance – Brahms
- Think of Me – Phantom of the Opera
- This is the Moment – Jekyll & Hyde
I want to continue giving Amelia piano lessons. She is very enthusiastic about learning to play music too, and even fantasizes about our family “band” that could one day emerge in the distant future. So far, Amelia has only had 3 lessons but catches on far better than I expected.
This year, I will become trained in reiki healing level I & II. Ideally, I will find a reiki master to teach me before summer ends. This was a 2016 goal that I was unable to attain, so it has been pushed on to this new year with more force.
You can only fail to complete a goal when you give up. (Remember that one.)
I’ve been listening to both French & Spanish songs on my mail route lately. I want to brush up on basic spanish grammar and maintain a good grasp of the French language. It would be nice to incorporate more foreign language into our home life since both my husband and I are passionate about learning languages and culture.
Right now, I am reviewing a book that easily helps families add the French language into their daily lives. It even teaches you the hokey pokey, which is pretty entertaining to sing in French.
I just want to make a physical reminder here to continue my routine meditations throughout 2017. I have several spiritual goals that tie along with that, but I will leave it at that for now.
4. Clean home
A clean home makes a noticeable (and positive) impact on my stress and anger levels. I’ve neglected it for a good five years since my children were born… but I’ve been doing very well with this resolution for the past month or so.
Oh, and my cleaning goals have been realistic!
Put away the dishes and clean the table after meals. When the dishwasher is clean, put away the dishes as soon as possible, so dishes don’t build up in the sink. Clean the kitchen counters and keep my sink shiny. The hardest thing to do is keep the laundry room counter clean, but it’s important because it is the first thing people see when they walk into our home.
I’d like to try to keep up on laundry all year long, but that might be pushing it!
I simply need to spend more time writing in deep thought. I have to set extra time aside in order to delve further into important world matters. I’ve only been scratching the surface of many topics I care about, so it’d be nice to expand upon them.
Plus, higher quality writing will result in higher quality traffic (engaged & interested readers), which will eventually help reach financial goals. Right? Right. Money is a good perk of any passionate hobby. 🙂
6. A thousand other things
Learn Russian history better. Follow US & world politics all the time. Be an active contributor to social causes, rather than just talk. Read more. Listen to free Ivy League school lectures online. Be less judgmental. Have more patience. Reduce my social anxiety. Do more family fun activities with the kids (park, swimming, etc). Grow a better garden this year. Pay off all student debt. Learn even more about crystals. Incorporate even more essential oils into my daily routines.
That’s all I got for now. I always have grand ideas, but the top 5 listed are the ones I will actually accomplish this year.
So now, either go make one goal for 2017 if you haven’t yet… Or revisit the resolutions you made on New Years Eve and continue working towards them.
And tell me– What are you planning for 2017? More babies? More vegetables? More hundred dollar bills? More cardio? Trip to the moon? Let me know.
