It’s finally up!
Last night, we went to a local Christmas tree farm and brought back a beautiful White Spruce Christmas tree, which is different from our usual White Pine. We decided to shake it up a bit and bring on the excess pine needles and prickly branches!
I must say that our White Spruce is super fragrant and our house is super-filled with the pine scent this year. I’m not used to this intense level of pine fragrance. It’s a good thing though!
Here she is,
Our children loved decorating it! In fact, Ollie man is still taking the marbles on and off the tree… Little Amelia calls all the bulbs and ornaments marbles. How cute is that? She also calls candy canes, candy cans!
I must say that the White Spruce is extremely fragrant compared to the White Pines. If you’re looking for a super pine scented home, pick out a White Spruce!
Does anyone else feel bad about cutting down a tree every year just for tradition and decorating purposes? It always crosses my mind… Instead of feeling guilty, we make the most of it. We are sure to keep it’s water levels high so it doesn’t dry out sooner than it should. Then, our Christmas tree gets to return to the forest and compost.
This year, we are going further and planting 10 new trees on our property!
Want to plant a new tree in honor of your 2015 Christmas Tree?
Gif’t a Tree
You don’t even have to physically plant one yourself! And it’s free!
Since 2009, Green is Universal and the Arbor Day Foundation have teamed up for a social media campaign that spreads the word about planting trees during the holidays. All you have to do is create a GIF and share it on any of your social media pages. For each action, they will plant one real tree, up to 25,000, in a state park or national forest, funded by a $25,000 contribution to the Arbor Day Foundation, from NBCUniversal.
Visit Green is Universal and create a holiday GIF to share on your favorite social media page. Use #GIFtATree in your post.
This campaign runs from December 2- December 31, 2015. Let’s help get out and spread the word!
Plant your own
You can find over 100 tree varieties at the Arbor Day Foundation online nursery. If you become a member (starting at $10), you can choose to receive or gift 10 real trees for free. The membership will also give you member-only discounts on trees. I intend on buying some hybrid Poplar trees, which grow 5-8ft each year or Green Giant Arborvitae trees, which grow 3ft each year. The goal is to create a natural border to block out neighbors and road traffic.
Of course, with every tree planted, you are bettering our world. <3
Merry Christmas everyone and remember to visit Green is Universal to create and share a GIF so a new tree will be planted!
